# afs-rep — who authorised this financial representative, and when > Search 237,078 AFS authorised representatives and every authorisation ASIC records — current and ceased, with the dates. ## Who authorised this representative, and when Type the name of the adviser or firm, or their AFS representative number. 237,078 representatives, 362,694 authorisations, current and ceased. ### The question this register answers, and no other does If you were given financial advice and it went wrong, the complaint does not go to the adviser. Under AFCA's rules it goes to the **licensee that authorised them** — and AFCA says plainly that it *cannot tell you who that is*. So the question is not “does this person exist on the register”. It is **who was authorising them on the day they advised me**. That is a question about dates, and this site is built around it: every authorisation ASIC records, with its start date, its end date, and the licensee behind it. ### ⚠️ 24.4% of representatives have had more than one licensee 57,876 of 237,078 representatives on this register were authorised by two licensees or more — one of them by 22 in turn. AFCA warns about exactly this case: *“you may need to submit a complaint for each issue”*. Getting it wrong is not a formality. A complaint aimed at the licensee who authorised them *after* your advice is a complaint against a firm that was not answerable for it. [How to read the dates](/complain.md). ### ⚠️ 103,074 authorisations name a licence that is no longer in the current file 28.4% of the authorisations here were granted by one of 2,430 licence numbers that do not appear in ASIC's current AFS Licensee dataset. We have no cancellation date and we will not pretend otherwise — but where a licensee no longer exists, an AFCA determination against it can go unpaid. That is the case the Compensation Scheme of Last Resort was created for. ### What this register is not 187,346 of the 237,078 representatives here have no authorisation in force. That is **not** a finding against them: people retire, firms restructure, and someone may hold an AFS licence in their own right rather than be authorised by another.
